I have read this book twice,firstly it is australian and set in Sydney in the area i grew up in,but i read american books all the time that have street/suburb city names that i dont know so dont let that put you off.
I think this book is perfect for women,over 50,the kids are grown up and she is doing things for herself.
I love the writing,the aussieness and the tattoos,maybe not for everyone.

For a while I wondered where the story was leading, but thoroughly enjoyed following gutsy lady Marie through her final months. Very poignant and honest.
Painful to read, as it was so hopeful yet sad at the same time. A surprisingly great read - I hadn't wanted to read this, but did when it came up on our book club list. I'm so glad I read it
It is very seldom that I cannot finish a novel once started, but this one I could not persevere with. I found the characters hard to like, the storyline mundane, All in all, not my cup of tea.
I loved the main character in this book and cheered her on her journey and incredible change of life. Makes you wonder what's in store for all of us - our Australian affluent suburban lives may not turn out as we planned.
Sooooo Sydney, am I glad I do not live in Mosman or surrounding burbs.
It is not surprising this book was a good Book Club book I am sure all the events revealed in this book would have caused great discussion.
Not for me though, the characters were too shallow and predictable for my taste, didn't like any of them very much. For me to like a book I have must have at least one person to like a little.
Nearly chic lit.
A good read. Marie, an older divorced Australian,breaks loose from her stifling, conservative life in Mossman, an exclusive suburb of Sydney, by getting tattooed. The story takes us into the world of the tattoo artist ,and Marie'sattempt to claim her life and her own body. This, I think is a first novel by Fiona Mcgregor. It is a memorable story that can shake our subconscious prejudices and beliefs.
Anyone who loves ink, anyone who enjoys reading of another human being breaking out, will take to this book. Well written and good to read.
